Green Bay, WI — (Sports Network) - Bryquis Perine poured in 22 points, as the Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix upended the 20th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers, 88-84, in overtime at Resch Center.
Rahmon Fletcher added 18 points and five steals for the Phoenix (9-2), who have won five straight games and are off to their best start since the 1995-96 campaign, a year the team went 25-4 and made its last NCAA Tournament appearance.
“When you’re playing in-state games, especially against a team like Wisconsin that we all have so much respect for, that’s a great win for our program,” said Green Bay coach Tod Kowalczyk. “We took some punches from them and we responded. That’s a sign of a good team that has very good leadership.”

Troy Cotton made 4-of-7 three-pointers on his way to 15 points. Randy Berry chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds while Cordero Barkley ended with 11 points for Green Bay, which defeated a ranked team for the first time since taking down No. 11 Butler by a 75-66 count on February 2, 2009.
“The dribble penetration occurred, but if you noticed they didn’t get a lot of stuff going to the rim,” said Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan. “They made some tough twos early, but it was the threes that really hurt us. If you’re taking away one thing, you tend to expose something else. When you (allow them to) shoot 50 percent from three, something else has to really go well for you.”
Trevon Hughes finished with 27 points, six rebounds, and five assists for the Badgers (6-2), who had a three-game win streak snapped. Jon Leuer went 8-of-12 from the field on his way to 26 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Ryan Evans had 11 points for Wisconsin, which had won the previous 15 meetings with the Phoenix.
The Badgers cut their deficit to 83-80 with 33 seconds remaining in overtime, thanks to a pair of Leuer foul shots. The Phoenix then sealed the victory with four straight points.
Seth Evans made a pair of foul shots to put Green Bay ahead by five. After Tim Jarmusz turned the ball over, Barkley made two shots from the charity stripe to make it 87-80 with 20 ticks to play.
Wisconsin never got closer than four the rest of the way.
Green Bay started the game on an 11-3 run, with Perine’s jumper capping the spurt just four minutes in.
Down 18-12, Wisconsin went on a 10-2 flurry to take the lead. Hughes ended the run with a pair of free throws, giving the Badgers a 22-20 edge with less than eight minutes left until half.
The remainder of the half was a close battle that saw the Phoenix hold a 39-37 margin heading to the locker room.
A Barkley trey put Green Bay in front 59-51 with less than 10 1/2 minutes left in the second half.
Wisconsin responded with a 10-1 run to take its first lead of the frame. Hughes tallied eight points during the stretch, which Leuer topped off with a slam for a 61-60 edge with about eight minutes remaining.
Multiple trips to the foul line in the closing minutes allowed Green Bay to jump in front, but Hughes’ layup with 1:18 left deadlocked the contest at 73. Perine made a pair of foul shots at the other end to put Green Bay ahead by two with 25 seconds to go.
At the opposite end of the floor, Hughes missed a layup. However, Leuer was there for the rebound and made a layup to deadlock things at 75 with seven ticks left. Perine missed a potential game-winning jumper as time expired.
